HADLOW COLLEGE CHAPLAINCY

CHAPLAINCY TEAM

WHAT IS THE HADLOW CHAPLAINCY TEAM?

CHAPLAINCY SERVICES: HADLOW (and West Kent Colleges)

At the Hadlow (& West Kent College) chaplaincy team, we recognise that people are not two-dimensional beings; we are each a whole person with a broad range of aspirations and needs and these needs are interconnected.  To truly help someone with their educational needs, it is vital to also be aware of their emotional needs, spiritual needs and economic needs. As such, we believe in communities that are holistic, interconnected and totally inclusive. As part of the commitment to pastoral care for Hadlow college (and West Kent) there are Chaplains welcomed to support, develop and lead on matters spiritual, moral, social and cultural for staff, students and community members of all faiths and of none.

Chaplaincy services include:

  • Providing  a quiet/prayer space for people of faith or no-faith

  • Providing mentoring and a listening ear (under the Student Support Service)

  • Provide spiritual help and development (through the curriculum and individually)

  • Leading services at major festivals and other times (Harvest, Christmas, Rogation)

  • Making links with other local community groups and schools

  • Being available at times of crisis in conjunction with Student Support

  • Providing a chill and chat space on Monday evenings

Considerations for expanding the work of the chaplaincy team  include:

  • Seeking a way to be available to members of staff- attending staff training/team-building days for one session at the beginning of the           academic year. This will enable staff to know who the team are.

  • Connecting with the Student Union

  • Occasional invitation to, and participation in, student support service team meetings.

  • Meeting other needs as they arise/ seem appropriate to student support.

  • Accessing facilities to help in the work (printing etc)

We believe that all of us – and we mean all of us – are created in the image of God who loves us. That’s why we work with people regardless of any distinction you can think of. We call this working inclusively.

We’re motivated by our Christian faith to help the colleges meet the needs of the whole person educationally, environmentally, physically, socially, economically and spiritually. We call this working holistically. We want to be part of building a stronger sense of community in Tonbridge, playing our part in helping to transform it into a place where all people feel safe, happy and proud to live, learn and work alongside one another.
